CARLOS THE JAGUAR: (THIS IS A TRUE STORY) "AMAZON TOURS BRAZIL"
My name is Carlos Damasceno , tour operator and multilingual guide. Offering tours in Manaus Amazon Rainforest Brazil. I was born in the Amazon in a small town called Lábrea located on the right side of Purus River tributary of the mighty Amazon. This small town is located roughly 1.300 Km from Manaus the capital of the State Amazon. Taking 6 days by boat to get there, 2 hours by plane and 2 days by car only in summer through Trazamazonic road.
There, I spent part of my life seeing and learning direct from mother nature just outside my door. My family lived about one hour from the small town on the banks of Purus River tributary of the mighty Amazon River. We lived in a house on stilts located a few meters from the river.
In 1967 the most important occupation of my family was: agriculture, fishing and extraction of latex from rubber trees. I still remember when I helped my family to collect latex from the trees to make the famous rubber balls to be sold in the small town of Lábrea distant by boat about 1.300 km from Manaus the capital of the State Amazon.
In November, at the beginning of the rainy season the water level began to rise, flooding the entire region, so our crops were destroyed by the level of water and the scenery was completely changed. Sometimes, the water level rose so much that reached the floor of the houses, as you can see below.
During the night, anacondas came to eat our chickens kept in a chicken coop next to our house. Then, my grandfather woke up to the sound of chickens and took the canoe, flashlight and machete and went up to the coop to avoid the attack of anacondas as we could not lose our food. Sometimes they attacked pigs, goats, cats and dogs. However, today this phenomenon still occurs throughout the Amazon due the high level of the rivers.
The period of high water last 3-4 months during this time locals could not work in agriculture due to the high level of the rivers. It was a difficult time for adults and children who could not play and have fun outside the house. Finally, in June, in early summer, the river level began to drop. Fortunately, the water level did not bring only troubles to natives, but became the soil extremely fertile and rich in nutrients and mineral salts so important for agriculture.
It was a bountiful season: many fishes, many fruits and plenty of vegetable. Finally in June, in the beginning of summer, the water level began to go down. Natives were happy to come back to work, animals were around the house, children could play and have fun around the house again.
Then, in a few months the water level began to rise up again, repeating the endless cycle, year after year, day after day to this day. So, I grew up, watching and learning about the Amazon jungle what is not taught in books. Then, In early 70’’s my parents moved to Manaus. So, I began my new life in the city of Manaus the capital of State Amazon. Later, I decided to learn languages, starting firstly by English, than, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
It all started in 1980, when I walked across the famous Opera House of Manaus and found two Swiss visiting our town; soon we became friends , at that time I only spoke English. Then, they asked me to organize them a three days tour in the Amazon, that’s how I made my first tour in the Amazon Jungle and so, from that day on I have never stopped organizing tours in Manaus-Amazon for customers from all over the world.
Later, I became a multilingual guide and tour operator in Manaus organizing amazing and unforgettable tours in the Amazon jungle for guests worldwide. Then, I had the chance to make my first trip outside manaus Amazon, I had the opportunity to visit Europe through german musicians. So, I left the city of manaus and went to Europe, while visiting friends in South Germany, I was invited to lecture of the Amazon Rainforest in a german school for children. While I was in Manaus I made a 3 days tour in the Amazon with 37 musicians from a German Orchestra, during the tour we became very good friends and so, an interchange came soon between German musicians and Amazon musicians which played together in the famous Opera House of Manaus and also in Germany. So, it was my life and my story in Manaus and in the Amazon Jungle which I learned and discovered the mysteries and secrets of this incredible region that today I take to my guests from all over the world.
Thus, I consider myself qualified to offer my customers a wonderful and different tour in the Amazon far away from civilization and away from tourist regions where you can really enjoy a fascinating trip with someone who has dedicated his life to show visitors worldwide the beauties and the wonders of the untamed and fascinating Amazon.
